Underneath this beautiful lake is the long lost village of Llanwddyn.
In the 1880’s the village was flooded and the reservoir built to supply the people of the Liverpool area with water. It is is one of a few lost Welsh villages to supply the English with water.
Lake Vyrnwy was the first dam of its kind in the world.
Today it is a beautiful nature reserve run by the RSPB (Royal Society for The Protection Of Birds) and Severn Trent Water.
